The area of trapezium of height 40cm is 1600

. One parallel side is 10cm longer than the other side. Find the ratio of lengths of the parallel side.

Solution:

The area of trapezium =

1/2

× (sum of parallel sides) (height)
Let one of parallel side be ‘x’ and other side be ‘x+10’.
So, by above formula,
⇒ 1600 =

1/2

× (x + x + 10) × (40)
⇒ 1600 = (2x + 10) × 20
⇒ 2x + 10 = 80
⇒ ∴ 2x = 80 – 10
⇒ x =

{70}/2

= 35
Here, we get ‘x’ = 35. So ratio of parallel sides is 7:9.
