Determine the total power (in kW) consumed by a 3-phase delta connected system supplied by a line voltage of 240 V when the value of phase current is 20 A and the current lags the voltage by 60 degree.

Solution:

Power dissipated in 1 phase
P = VI cos ϕ = 240 × 20 × cos60° =

4800 × 1/2

= 2400 W
Now power dissipated in three phase is given by
= 3 × P = ( 3 × 2400)W
= 7200 W = 7.2 kW
