Determine the value of current (in A) through 30 ohms resistor of the circuit given below.

Solution:

From Loop 1

-40 + 20(I - I_1) = 0

⇒ -40 + 20I - 20I_1 = 0

⇒ 20I - 20I_1 = 40

⇒I-I_1=2

From Loop 2

-20(I - I_1) + 30 I_1 - 20 = 0

⇒ -20I + 20 I_1 + 30I_1 - 20 = 0

⇒50I_1 -20I = 20

⇒ 5I_1 - 2I = 2

Solving equation (1) and (2) we get

I_1= 2A
