The difference between C.I. and S.I. on an amount for 3 years at 20% per annum is₹640. Find out the principal amount.

Solution:

(1) Difference between C.I. and S.I.for 3 years

= P[r/100]^2[3+r/100]

∴640={P ×(20)^2 (300+ 20)}{100 ×100× 100}

⇒ p={640 ×100× 100 ×100}/{20× 20 ×320}

= ₹5,000
