A tank can be filled by a tap in 6 h. Due to a leakage, it takes on additional 45 minutes. After the tank is full, the tap is closed. When will the tank become empty due to the leakage?

Solution:

(3) Time required to fill the tankwith leakage

= [6+ 3/4]h = 27/4 h

Let us assume that the leakage canempty the full tank in x hour.

∴1/6- 1/x= 4/27

⇒ x = 54
∴ Time required to empty the tank= 54 h
