Solution:

(4) Side of the given square = x cm (let)
Side of new square

={3x}/2\cm. (\let)

∴ Required ratio of areas

= ( {3 x}/{2} )^{2} : x^{2}= {9 x^{2}}/{4} : x^{2}

=9 : 4
