The Constitution (56th Amendment) Act, 1987 confers Statehood to Goa and forms a new Union Territory of Daman and Diu.
Goa thus became the 25th State of the Indian Republic. It also fixed the strength of the Goa Legislative Assembly at a minimum of 30 members.
