Some oil is filled in a right circular cylindrical vessel. The radius of the base of the vessel is 6 cm. Some iron balls, each of diameter 3 cm, are completely dipped into the oil. If the level of oil in the vessel rises by 2 cm. Find the number of iron balls dipped in the oil.

Solution:

Let n be the number of iron balls dipped in the oil; then

n× 4/3 π × (3/2)^3

π× 6^2 × 2

⇒

9/2 × n

= 36 × 2
∴ n =

{36×2×2}/{9}

= 16
