Solution:

Internal measurements:
l = 14 – 2 × 0.75 = 12.5 cm; b = 9.5 – 2 × 0.75 = 8 cm

Volume of the wood required = 14 × 9.5 × 6 – 12.5 × 8 × 4.5
= 798 – 450 = 348
