Thirty-one litres of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 6 : 7. If 5 litres of this mixture is replaced by 5 litres of milk, the ratio of milk to water in the new mixture would be:

18 : 13
17 : 14

Validate

Solution:

Quantity of milk in 26 litres of mixture

= 26×6/13

= 12 litres
Quantity of milk in 31 litres of new mixture = (12 + 5) litres = 17 litres
Quantity of water in it = (31 - 17) litres = 14 litres
∴ Ratio of milk and water in the new mixture = 17 : 14
