One-fourth of sixty per cent of a number is equal to two-fifth of twenty per cent of another number. What is the respective ratio of the first number to the second number?

Solution:

Let two number be x and y, then,

1/4×60/100×x=2/5×20/100×y

⇒3/20x=2/25y

∴x/y=8/15

Hence, required ratio = 8 : 15
