The length of a rectangular hall is 5 m more than its breadth. The area of the hall is 750

. What is the length of the hall?

Solution:

Let length and breadth of the rectangular hall be (x + 5) and x m respectively; then
(x + 5)x = 750
⇒

x^2

+ 5x – 750 = 0
∴ (x – 25) (x + 30) = 0
Since, x = 25 m; then length = 25 + 5 = 30 m
