The length of a rectangular plot is 20 m more than its breadth. If the cost of fencing the plot at the rate of Rs. 26.50 per m is Rs. 5300, then find the length of the plot.

Solution:

Perimeter of rectangular plot =

{5300}/{26.50}

= 200 m
Let length and breadth be (x + 20) and x m respectively; then
2 (x + 20 + x) = 200
⇒ 2x + 20 = 100
∴ x =

{80}/2

= 40 m
Hence, length = 40 + 20 = 60 m
