According to John Maynard Keynes, the volume of employment in a country depends on the level of effective demand of people for goods and services. The total demand for goods and services by the people is the sum total of all demands meant for consumption and investment. The sum of consumption expenditures and investment expenditures constitutes effective demand in a two–sector economy.
