Life Cycle Hypothesis postulates that individual’s consumption in any time period depends upon resources available to the individual, rate of return on his capital and age of the individual. According to the hypothesis, young people usually have several years of employment. Hence, they borrow money to fund their education and consumption needs, while older people tend to be more conservative about their borrowing because of lesser productive employment years.
