CEDAW was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979. This treaty has been described as the International Bill of Rights for Women. It is a comprehensive treaty on the rights of women and establishes legally binding obligations on the State Parties to follow the legal standards set by it to end discrimination against women and its goal is to achieve equality between men andwomen.
