The Directive Principle under Article 48 A provides that “the State shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wild life of the country”. Similarly, the fundamental duty in Art.51A(g) stipulates as one of the duties of a citizen “to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, wild life and to have compassion for living creatures”.
