A citizen of India will lose his or her citizenship if he or she renounces the Indian citizenship or voluntarily acquires the citizenship of another country and not by marrying a citizen of another country or on criticising the Government. Article 9 of the Indian Constitution states that a person who voluntarily acquires citizenship of any other country is no longer an Indian citizen. Renunciation of Indian citizenship is a voluntary act which will amount to losing Indian citizenship.
