In November 2014, Sri Lanka allowed a Chinese submarine Changzheng-2 and warship Chang Xing Dao to dock at its port in Colombo despite concerns raised by India. A 1987 accord between India and Sri Lanka provides that their respective territories – including Trincomalee – will not be used for the activities prejudicial to each other’s unity, integrity and security.
