Solution:

Mean marks of 40 students = 65
∴ Total marks of 40 students = 65 × 40 = 2600
Again, half of the students i.e.,
Mean marks of 20 students = 45
∴ Total marks of 20 students = 45 × 20 = 900
∴ Marks of remaining students = 2600 – 900 = 1700
Hence, marks of 20 students = 1700
∴ Mean marks of 20 students

=1700/20=85
