The quadratic polynomial in x which when divided by x - 1, x + 2, x + 1 leave remainders 3, 24, 9 respectively is

Solution:

Let the quadratic expression be

ax^2 + bx + c

= f(x) say

f(1)=a+b+c=3

→ (1)

f(-2)=4 a-2 b+c=24

→(2)

f(-1)=a-b+c=9

→ (3)
solving (1), (2) and (3)
we get a = 4, b = –3, c= 2
∴ The quadratic expression is

4x^2-3x+2
