Solution:

Mean of observations = 5
from the mean are -4, -3, -2, 2, 3, 4
Variance

={(-4)^{2}+(-3)^{2}+(-2)^{2}+(2)^{2}+(3)^{2}+(4)^{2}}/{6}

=58/6=29/3

Variance of x + 1, x + 2, x + 3, x + 7, x +8 and x + 9 is same as the variance of 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 = 29/3
