Solution:

Given :

\A=[\table 1,2,2;2,3,0;0,1,2]

and

\A^{-1}=[\table x,-1,y;-2,1,2;1,-1/2,-1/2]

\AA^{-1}=\I=[\table1,0,0;0,1,0;0,0,1]

⇒1×x–2×2+2×1=1⇒x=3

and,

1×y+2×2–1/2×2=0⇒y=–3

∴x+y=0
