The length of the line segment intercepted between the axes by the line joining (6, -4) and (-3,8) is

Solution:

Equation of the line passing through the points (6, –4) and (–3, 8) is

y+4={8+4}/{-3-6}(x-6)

⇒y+4={12}/{-9}(x-6)

⇒y+4=-{4}/{3}(x-6)

⇒3y+12=-4x+24

⇒3y+4x=12

x – intercept

=12/4=3

i.e;

A=(3,0)

y – intercept

=12/3=4

i.e,

B=(0,4)

∴AB=√{3^2+4^2}=5
