5 men and 5 women earn Rs.660 in 3 days. 10 men and 20 women earn Rs.3,500 in 5 days. In how many days can 6 men and 4 women earn Rs.1,060?

Solution:

×2[\table 5m + 5w ={660}/3 = 220; 10m + 20w = {3500}/{5} = 700 ... (ii);10m+10w=20×2=440.....(i)

[Subtracting (i) from (ii)]
10 w = 700 − 440 = 260

∴ 1 { w } = { 260 }/ { 10 } = 26

Now, 5 m + 5 w = 220
5 m + 5 × 26 = 220

∴ 1 { m } = { 220 - 130 }/ { 5 } = { 90 }/ { 5 } = 18

Now, the required number of days

{ 1060 } { ( 6 ×18 + 4 × 26 ) } = { 1060 }/ { 212 } = 5
