Determine the value of reactive power (in VAR) of a circuit having power factor of 0.6, when the apparent power of the circuit is 120 VA.

Solution:

\cosϕ=0.6

S = 120 VA
Q = ?
Now Q = S × sin ϕ

= 120×√{1-\cos^2ϕ}

=120×√{1-(0.6)^2}

= 96VAR
