Determine the separation between the plates (in mm) of a parallel plate capacitor placed in air, when the area of the plates is 0.002 sq. meter, the voltage of the battery connected to this parallel plate capacitor is 4 V and the charge stored on the plates is 16 pC.

V = 4V
and q = 16 × 10

Distance between plates is given by

d={\ε_0\ε_\r\A}/{C}

={8.85×10^{-12}×1×0.002}/C

Now

C=q/V

={16×10^{-12}}/4

=4×10^{-12}

∴d=4.4\mm
