For a hill road with the ruling gradient of 6%, what will be the compensated gradient at a curve of radius 60 m?

Solution:

Grade compensation

={30+{\R}}/{{\R}} \%

={30+60}/{60} \%=1.5 \%

This should not be more than

={75}/{R} \%={75}/{60} \%=1.25 \%

Compensated gradient = Ruling gradient – Grade compensation = 6% – 1.25% = 4.75%
