A piece of wire 84 cm long is bent successively in the shape of an equilateral triangle and a square. What is the difference between both areas ?

Solution:

(1) Length of wire = Perimeter oftriangle = Perimeter of square
Area of equilateral triangle

=√ 3/4 (side)^2= √3/4×84/3×84/3

=196×√3=339.48 cm2

Area of square = side×side

= 84/4× 84/4= 21× 21= 441^ 2 cm^2

Therefore, required difference

= 441 – 339.48 = 101.52 cm^2
