Distance between centers of two circles touching externally is 14 cm. If sum of the areas is 308

, then what are the measures of their radii?

Solution:

Sum of areas is

22/7 (r^2 ) +22/7(14- r)^2 =308

⇒ r^2 + 196 + r^2 – 28r = 98

⇒ r^2 + 49 - 14r = 0

⇒ (r – 7)^2 =0

⇒ r = 7.
∴ Both the radii are 7 cm
