Three farmers rented a pasture. P grazed 20 horses for 5 months, Q grazed 12 horses for 5 months and R grazed 15 horses for 3 months. If Q’s share of rent is ` 8400, then the total rent paid by P and Q together is

Solution:

(2) Ratio of shares of P, Q and R =(20 × 5) : (12 × 5) : (15 × 3) =100 : 60 : 45 = 20 : 12 : 9
Let the total rent of pasture be₹ x
∴ Q’s share of rent

= 12/{20+12+9}×x= {₹12x}/41 = 8400

⇒x = 28700
Total rent paid by P and Q= ₹ 28700 - ₹ 8400 = ₹20300
