The length, breadth and height of a room are 5 m, 3 m and 4 m, respectively. Find out the cost of white washing the four walls of the room at₹ $32/m^2,$ if there are two doors of dimensions 3 m × 2 m and four windows of dimensions 1 m × 2 m.

Solution:

(2) Area of the four walls = 2h(l + b)= (2 × 4)(3 + 5) = 64

∴ There are doors and windows onthe wall, therefore, area of the wallsto be painted
= Total area of walls – total area ofdoors and buildings

= [64 – 2(3 × 2) – 4(1 × 2)] m2= 44 m^2

∴Total cost of painting = 44 × 32= ₹ 1408
