Let

\sin \θ+\cos \θ=p ..... .(2)

On squaring and adding both equations, we get,

2 (\sin ^{2} \θ+\cos ^{2} \θ)= {1}/{4}+p^{2}

⇒ 2= {1}/{4}+p^{2}

⇒ p^{2}= {7}/{4}

⇒ p= {√{7}}/{2}
