A certain number of men can complete a piece of work in 90 days. If there are 8 men less, it would take 10 days more. How many men were there originally?

Solution:

Let the number of men be x.
Then
x men can do the work in 90 days
(x - 8) men can do the work in (90 + 10) days = 100 days
⇒

x ×90 = (x - 8) × 100

⇒

90x = 100x - 8 0 0

⇒

x = 80

So number of men originally = 80
