Using section formula, the coordinates of point that divides line joining A = $\left({\mathit{x}}_1,{\mathit{y}}_1\right)$ and B = $\left({\mathit{x}}_2,{\mathit{y}}_2\right)$ in the ratio a : b
Now, point P (5,-2) divides (x,0) and (0,y) in ratio = 2 : 5
$\Rightarrow 5=\frac{\left(2\times 0\right)+\left(5\times \mathit{x}\right)}{2+5}$
⇒ $\mathit{x}=\frac{5\times 7}{5}=7$
Similarly, $-2=\frac{\left(2\times \mathit{y}\right)+\left(5\times 0\right)}{2+5}$
⇒ $\mathit{y}=-1\times 7=-7$
