Solution:

Let the number be 100
When the student multiplied it by 4/5, ⇒ original result =

4/5×100=80

When the student multiply it by 5/4, ⇒ New result =

5/4×100=125

⇒ Percentage error in calculation =

({125-80})/125×100

=45/5×4=36%
