Let original number of carpenters =

Using,

M_1D_1 = M_2D_2

⇒

x × 15 = (x − 3) × 20

⇒

15x = 20x − 60

⇒

20x − 15x = 60

⇒

x =60/ 5 =12

∴ Original number of carpenters = 12
