Ramsar Convention was signed in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar. It is a convention for the protection and conservation wetlands around the world. It came into force in 1975.
However, in India, it came into force in 1982. There are 42 Ramsar sites in India listed under Ramsar Convention.
