The area of a rhombus is 256 square cm. and one of its diagonals is twice the other in length. Then length of its larger diagonal is

Solution:

(1) One diagonal of rhombus

=d_1=x\cm

Second diagonal

=d_{2}=2 \×{cm} .

Area of rhombus

= {1}/{2} d_{1} . d_{2}

∴{1}/{2} d_{1} . d_{2}=256

⇒{1}/{2} x . 2 x=256

⇒ x^{2}=256

⇒x=√{256}=16 {cm}

∴ Larger diagonal = 2x = 2 × 16 = 32 cm.
