Rajat and Atul can do a piece of work in 9 days and 12 days respectively. If they work for a day alternately, with Rajat beginning, in how many days, the whole work will be completed?

Efficiency of Rajat =

100/9=11.11%

Efficiency of Atul =

100/12=8.33%

→ They do (11.11 + 8.33) % = 19.44% is 2 days
∴ They need 10 days to do 97.20% of work
Now the rest work (100 - 97.22 = 2.78% ) was done by Rajat

=2.78/11.11=1/4

day
∴ Total no. of days required to complete the whole work =

10+1/4=10 1/4\days
