Three candidates A, B and C contested an election. Out of the total votes on a voter list 25% did not vote and 6.66% votes polled were invalid. C got 2450 valid votes, which were 40% more than that of B. If A got only 40% of the total votes, then find the total number of votes?

Validate

Solution:

Let total votes be x
Polled votes = 0.75x
Valid votes = (100- 6.66)% × 0.75x
= 0.70x
∴ A + B + C = 0.70x
⇒

0.4x + 2450/1.4+2450 = 0.7x

⇒ x = 14000
