A can do a piece of work in 6 days working 8 hours a day while B can do the same work in 4 days working 10 hours a day. If the work has to be completed in 5 days, so how many hours do they need to work together in a day?

Validate

Solution:

A can complete the work = 8 × 6 = 48 hours
and B can complete the work = 10 × 4 =40 hours
∴ A’s 1 hour’s work

=1/48

and B’s 1 hour’s work

=1/40

(A + B)’s 1 hour’s work

=1/48+1/40=11/240

∴ Both A and B will finish the work

= 240/11\hours

Hence, they need to work in a day

=240/{11×5}=48/11

=4 4/11\hours
