= 72 and xy = 6 with x > y. Then the value of (x – y) is

Solution:

x^3 + y^3

= 72
= 64 + 8 =

4^3 + 2^3

∴ x = 4, y = 2
⇒ xy = 8
∴ x – y = 4 – 2 = 2
