A, B and C can complete a work in 20,24 and 30 days respectively. All three of them start together but after 4 days A leaves the job and B left the job 6 days before the work was completed. C completed the remaining work alone. In how many days was the total work completed?

Solution:

Let the work will be completed in x days.
According to the question,

4/20+{x-6}/24+x/30=1

⇒

{6× 4+ 5(x-6)+4x}/120=1

⇒

24 + 5x -3 0 + 4 x = 120

⇒

9x - 6 =120

⇒

9x = 126

∴

x=126/9=14

days
