Solution:

tan θ + cot θ = 5
On squaring both sides,

(tanθ + cotθ)^2

= 25
⇒ tan 2θ + cot 2θ + 2 tan θ. cot θ = 25
⇒ tan 2θ + cot 2θ + 2 = 25
⇒ tan 2θ + cot 2θ = 25 – 2 = 23
