Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar was, on 15 May 1952, elected the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha after the first general elections in independent India. Earlier, he held the positions of the President (from 1946 to 1947) of the Central Legislative Assembly and then Speaker of the Constituent Assembly of India.
