In a particular type of fertilizer, the ratio of two chemicals R and T is 2:5. In 21 kg of this fertilizer, if 3 kg of R is added, the ratio of R and T in the new fertilizer will be-

2 : 3
3 : 5
4 : 5

Validate

Solution:

(3) Let the amount of R and Tare 2x and 5x respectively.By question,
∴ 2x + 5x = 21
⇒ 7x = 21 ∴ x = 3
∴ Amount of R = 2x = 2×3= 6 kg.
Amount of T = 5x = 5 × 3= 15 kg.
Now, 3 kg more R is mixed in mixture.
∴ ratio of R and T =

{(6 + 3)kg}{15kg}

=9/15=3/5= = 3 : 5
