(2) The National Sugar Institute (NSI) is located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and gives research, training and advisory services to the sugar and allied industries, and it functions under the Department of Food and Public Distribution of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The institute provides technical education and training for research in all the branches of sugar chemistry, sugar technology, sugar engineering and allied fields and provides assistance to central and state governments in sugar and allied industries.
