Two numbers are in the ratio 1 : 2. If 7 is added to both, their ratio changes to 3 : 5. The greater number is:

Solution:

Let the two number be x and 2x
Then,

{x+7}/{2x+7}=3/5

6x + 21 = 5x + 35

∴ x = 14

The greater number = 2x = 2 × 14 = 28
