The sum of three numbers is 225. If the ratio of the first to the second is 4 : 5 and of the second to the third is 5 : 6, then the first number is:

Solution:

Let the three numbers be A, B and C.
Then A : B = 4 : 5 and B : C = 5 : 6
A : B : C = 20 : 25 : 30
∴ First number

=225×20/75=60
